Ateneo's new era is already in full swing. Under new Coach Tab Baldwin, expectations are definitely high for the Blue Eagles this season. Their first assignment: host school University of Santo Tomas. The UAAP Season 78 Finalists are no pushovers either. Both teams were looking start off their UAAP season on a good note.
As expected, it was tightly contested match between Ateneo and UST. However, Aaron Black showed the world why he's ready to lead the way for the Blue Eagles this season. He waxed hot from the field as he scored 23 points and 7 boards (3 reboards shy of a Double-Double) for Ateneo. Shades of his father Norman Black who's currently the Head Coach of the Meralco Bolts in the PBA. Oh, he dropped 5 dimes and had 3 blocks. That sure is one way to make an impact in the UAAP, especially playing for a new coach.
Thirdy Ravena returned to the Blue Eagles roster and also made his presence felt as he finished with a Double-Double performance -- 17 points and 11 boards. Impressive for a Ravena not named Kiefer.
On the other side of the fence, UST's system is currently a work in progress under new Head Coach Boy Sablan. But that didn't stop Veteran Louie Vigil to score buckets and keep the Growling Tigers at bay. They remained within striking distance but, Ateneo's Aaron Black was just too much to handle for UST.
In the end, Ateneo was victorious and became the other team with a W in the standings.
The UST Growling Tigers are looking to bounce back from their loss as they go up against the UE Red Warriors on Saturday, September 10. Then on Sunday, September 11, the Ateneo Blue Eagles will be facing The National University Bulldogs.
