Adamson soars high in UAAP Season 79 opener against UP

UAAP basketball is indeed back! The Adamson University Soaring Falcons were all business as they opened UAAP season 79 with a huge win against the UP Fighting Maroons. Rookie Jerrick Ahanmisi (younger brother of Rain or Shine Elasto Painters Point Guard Maverick Ahanmisi in the PBA) was literally lit as he dropped 28 points (made 6/7 from 3-point territory) in his UAAP debut for the Falcons.

Making his return to UAAP hoops is champion coach Franz Pumaren -- now calling the shots for Adamson -- was very much pleased with the performance of his boys against the Fighting Maroons.

Mentor Bo Perasol -- who guided the Ateneo Blue Eagles to the UAAP Final Four last season -- replaced Rensy Bajar as the new Head Coach of UP. The Maroons made a strong comeback in the second half  and not even Paul Desiderio's 24 points wasn't enough to tow UP for a victory. Veteran Jett Manual added 15 points for the Maroons.

Another rookie who made an impressive debut for Adamson was Robbie Manalang, who finished with 16 points, 9 assists, 1 rebound and 1 steal.

Next up for UP will be against DLSU on Saturday, September 10 while Adamson will face FEU on Sunday, September 11.
