2016 PBA Governors' Cup Weekly Recap: Aug. 10-14

The 2016 PBA Governors' Cup is certainly heating up as the elimination round is approaching it's halfway mark.  Anything can indeed happen in the PBA especially when teams are reinforced with imports to spice up the competition. On that note, we take a look back at last week's gam

August 10, 2016

Meralco def. Rain or Shine 109-102

The Meralco Bolts Import Allen Durham has been dominating (in terms of points production) the Conference so far. He easily dropped 32 points on the 2016 Commissioner's Cup Champions Rain or Shine. That clearly didn't sit well for Elasto Painters Coach Yeng Guiao as he got tossed out of the game in the second half.

A forgettable performance for Rain or Shine as they look to bounce back this Sunday against Barangay Ginebra San Miguel.

Barangay Ginebra def. Blackwater 107-95

Barangay Ginebra's LA Tenorio and Import Justin Brownlee (they combined for 50 points) was too much for Blackwater Elite. Albeit Ginebra struggled early in the game, they manage to get their groove back in the second half and completely dominated until the final buzzer.

Eric Dawson and Carlo Lastimosa finished with 26 and 21 points respectively for Blackwater.

Phoenix def. Mahindra 100-94

The winning streak came to an end for the Mahindra Enforcers as they lost to Phoenix Petroleum Fuel Masters in a highly contested game. James White had 24 points while versatile big man Aldrech Ramos added18 points for Mahindra.

Veteran Swingman Cyrus Baguio lifted the Fuel Masters as he finished with 22 points.

NLEX def. Star 88-85

NLEX Import Henry Walker dropped 32 points on the struggling Star Hotshots. The Road Warriors dominated the entire game, not even Joel Wright's 28 points wasn't even enough to get the W for the Hot Shots.

Rookie Garvo Lanete chalked up 15 points for NLEX.

The Star Hot Shots will face the Alaska Aces this Saturday in Davao City.

TNT def. Blackwater 109-89

Yet another woeful performance for Blackwater Elite. Nagging back spasms took a toll on Import Eric Dawson as he only scored 13 points the entire game for the Elite. Ranidel de Ocampo's shooting lead the way for Katropa TNT with 20 points while Mychal Ammons finished with 18.

Rain or Shine def. Alaska 117-14

Rain or Shine bounced back from their loss Meralco with a decisive win over the Alask Aces. The Aces' late come back wasn't enough to topple the 2016 Commissioner's Cup Champions. Dior Lawhorn scored 24 points while Point Guard Paul Lee added 18 points for the Elasto Painters.

Alaska Aces Import LaDontae Henton had 41 points and Calvin Abueva chalked up 17 points.

August 14, 2016

GlobalPort def. Meralco 126-123 (2OT)

It was indeed one of the most best games in the PBA this conference. The lowly GlobalPort Batang Pier finally got that hard-fought W against the Meralco Bolts. The duo of Terrence Romeo and Stanley Pringle combined for 48 points, Import Michael Glover had 26 for GlobalPort.

Albeit the Kobe-like performance, Allen Durham finished with 55 points for Meralco.

Barangay Ginebra def. San Miguel 111-105 (2OT)

Another hotly contested match-up between Barangay Ginebra and San Miguel Beermen was indeed worthy of being the highlight of the night. 12,000+ fans certainly got their money's worth as they witness a couple of thrilling Double-Overtime games on a rainy Sunday. It turned out to be a battle between two imports -- Ginebra's Justin Brownlee vs AZ Reid of SMB.

Both imports traded shots the entire game. After 2 OT's, the Beermen's AZ Reid came out the victor in the end. He finished with 26 points while his rival Justin Brownlee had 38 points for Barangay Ginebra.
