In Photos: Philippines notch 2-Nil victory over Maldives in International Friendly Match

In preparation for their 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying match against Uzbekistan, the PFF organized an International Friendly match against the Maldives. The Philippines showed top form as they blank the visiting Maldives National Football Team with 2-0 win.

The first half seemed like a battle of defensive wits in the pitch. It was also a good opportunity for Coach Thomas Dooley to experiment on a new system, putting up a more defensive lineup for the Azkals.

A Maldives player inadvertently sent the ball through their own goal via a header in the 48′ of the second half giving the Philippines a 1-nil edge. A Jerry Lucena header gave the Azkals their second goal in the 55′ with an assist by Kevin Ingreso off a Stephan Schrock cross to the box.

The Azkals’ Paul Mulders was slapped with a Yellow Card after fouling a Maldives in the 85′.

The Philippines win over the Maldives gives them an added boost of confidence in their upcoming match against Uzbekistan at the Philippine Stadium in Bulacan for 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifers on September 8.
